you don't always need to run windows XP only for the first install, since the original FFXI dlls and exe's arent compatible with Vista but the ones that came out in the past 6 months+ are good.

so after you spend hours for first install you good all the time, and never need to redo this the auto update works in later versions of POL, also if you have maybe the newest CD's it might work, but I have the original US cd's so can't test that theory.

LOL I lost my Original CD with ZIlart Codes since I let my buddy borrow the game and get hooked so we can pt together, then when I needed it back he lost mine and gave me his copy.
typically you never need the codes since only the POL ID and pwd matters but if I ever will need them I guess I'm F--d like you.

I had FFXI running on vista since beta2 version
its a pain to install but if you have working XP machine with FFXI then its not so bad.
1. you need XP with working FFXI
2. Copy entire 4,5,10 GB or more of FFXI directory to a the VIsta temporary folder.
3. Install on Vista from CD's all 9
4. VIsta cant do update so now copy all those XP directory on top of the Vista Install.
5. Log In and it will do a File check on you Installation and will repair it.
6. Play and Have Fun

if youy use ffasist or similir programs but espacialy FFasist2 its easy to have tell/party/linkshell /other in diffrent windows, you can really break any paticular messege to be in a specific window if you want to go that far with super custom programming, which is really just simple scripting

NPC been like that always for mobs that have multi pop places meanning like the sheep in lufaise medows acctyaly pop 4 times in 4 places i think and only the ones that kills it 1st or claim/ gets drops

so npc works weird with those mobs alone

for me it always been diffrent if i just go into a zone the more I go trought it the more mobs i see on NPC keep poping.
However if I was in the zone for awhile and went around it, Now turn on NPC I will see almost all the mobs in the Zone.
Like it remebers which ID's to scan for since there is some cache for current ID's in the zone that been checked allready.
